“The Indentured Bottle, Part 1” by Musa M.

There once was an empty glass bottle, who lived in a fridge in a cottage beside the ocean. His name was Bennett O’Lone. One day, while Bennett was sleeping nicely, a boy named George snatched him out of his icy bed.

“What is this empty bottle doing in the fridge?” George muttered to himself.

“AAAAHHHHH,” screamed Bennett, when George started unscrewing his cap.

“Wait, you can talk?” George exclaimed.

“Of course I can talk,” said Bennett irritably.

“You should be in the recycling bin,” said George, walking towards the trash.

“NOOOOOOOO! WAIT!! Not that horrid place!” Bennett shrieked.

Bennett did not want to go to the recycling bin. It was dark and smelly. Some other bottles were leaky and sticky. Others might have moldy unmentionables on their insides. It was a terrible place to be. He couldn’t bear to think about the painful recycling process where he would be smashed, melted, and pieced back together. He might not even be in one piece after all that! The horrors were endless.

George explained that he would save Bennett from the recycling bin if he went on a mission. George had always wanted to meet the aliens so he tasked Bennett to go send a letter to them. Bennett agreed and George went upstairs to write a note. Then he put the note into Bennett and put a cork instead of a cap to help seal out the ocean water. Then with one mighty thrust, George casted Bennett off into the ocean to find the aliens. Bennett knew if he could get to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, he could teleport to a different planet. Bennett had a special amulet that could let him teleport. But the trip to the middle of the Ocean would be dangerous.

After a couple of days, Bennett reached his first obstacle, The Rapids. The Rapids were a part of the ocean that had extremely large waves that could easily smash him into rocks. Bennett had thought for a while and he got an idea on how to avoid The Rapids. Bennett’s idea was to land on an island and build himself a boat.

It should be noted here that bottles can move as long as no animals or humans are watching. Bottles knew that humans were too timid and animals would chase after them. A running bottle was just asking for trouble. But if no one was around, they could run quite fast. In fact, in the early days, there were bottle races. Bennett remembered Flash the Flask, who had won many races in consecutive years. It was later found that Flash worked in a chemistry lab and had many substances on him that granted him extraordinary speed. He was disqualified, but by then he had become extremely rich. Rumors say he is living on a secluded island in the Pacific Ocean, racing with the coconuts.

Soon Bennett landed on an unknown island and luckily he was able to find coconut shells. Bennett grabbed some leaves to make a makeshift raft. He tied down the coconut shell onto his raft and sat snugly in his cozy boat, making sure his vine seat belts were on. Although some twigs poked at him during the ride through The Rapids, he made it safely through. Soon Bennett reached his second obstacle, the shark infested waters of Fin Deep. Bennett tried to come up with an idea but to no avail and soon he was sailing straight into Fin Deep.

The main reason that Fin Deep was dangerous was not the sharks. Rather it was the jagged rocks that could smash any ship or raft into pieces. Bennett closed his eyes and thought: So this is how I die after coming so close. Then suddenly, his raft came to a halt and was being pulled back. Bennett opened his eyes to see that he was in the jaws of a megalodon. Well, Bennett didn’t know it was a megalodon. He just knew something about these teeth were fishy. There were rows and rows of teeth. So many teeth that he couldn’t count them. And they hadn’t been brushed in centuries.

“Where are we going?” Bennett asked fretfully.

The owner of the teeth exclaimed, “Blimey Beluga Whales! A talking bottle! My name is Maria, what’s yours?”

“I’m Bennett. Where are we going, Maria?”

“Well you seemed to be in trouble! What were you doing floating in the ocean?”

“I was on my way to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.”

“Why do you need to go to the middle of the ocean?”

Bennett explained that he was on a quest to send a letter to some aliens.

Maria grinned, “On an adventure, I see! Well I can get you to the middle of the ocean if that’s what you want.”

After Bennett agreed, the two went off to the middle of the ocean. He thanked Maria for the ride, and prepared to teleport to Europa. Most other nearby planets don’t have aliens. Europa was the closest in this part of the Milky Way.

Note: Do not ask how teleportation works. It is impossible to explain.

Bennett finally reached Europa. After spotting a large settlement, he went to deliver George’s note to the aliens.
